Short Overview

The Marangu path – sometimes known as the “Coca Cola route” – is one of the most popular routes to Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit. Many hikers feel that the Marangu path is the simplest route to Uhuru Peak because it is the only route that can be completed in 5 days (making it the cheapest choice). It is also the only route on the mountain that provides accommodation in A-frame cabins.
Unfortunately, the 5 day Marangu route has one of the lowest summit success rates of all the routes up mountain. If you take the Marangu route, we strongly recommend trekking it over 6 days to enhance your chances of reaching the summit.

This is the only route that offers nice community sleeping huts with solar illumination, bunk beds, and mattresses at each overnight location. Mandara and Horombo huts also have cold showers and flushing toilets. The Marangu route follows the same path as it ascends and descends.

  DAY 1 :  Arrival.

DAY 1 : Arrival in Moshi or Arusha
  • You arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet our driver to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha..
  • After reaching Moshi, you'll meet us for a pre-trek briefing.
  • We will help you with any equipment checks and ensure you have everything you need for the trek.
  • You'll spend the night in a hotel in Moshi, resting and preparing for the journey ahead.
    • DAY 2 : Marangu Gate (1,860m / 6102.4 ft ) to Mandara Hut (2,720m / 8924 ft )
  • After an early breakfast, you'll drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate, the starting point of your trek.
  • At the gate, you'll complete park registration and meet your trekking crew.
  • The first day's trek takes you through lush rainforest, filled with exotic flora and fauna.
  • You'll follow a well-maintained trail to Mandara Hut, where you'll have dinner and stay the night.
    Hiking Distance : 8 KM / 4.97 Mile.
    • DAY 3 : Mandara Hut (2,720m / 8924 ft ) to Horombo Hut ( 3,720m / 12205 ft )
  • You'll continue your ascent through the rainforest on the second day.
  • If time allows, you can take a short detour to Maundi Crater, offering excellent views of the Kenyan plains and Mawenzi Peak.
  • The trek then takes you through the heath and moorland zone.
  • You'll reach Horombo Hut, where you'll enjoy your evening meal and rest for the night.
    Hiking Distance : 11km / 6.8 Mile.
    • DAY 4 : Horombo Hut (3,720m / 12205 ft ) to Kibo Hut (4,720m / 15485.6 ft )
  • The trek continues through the alpine desert zone, with the landscape becoming more rugged and barren.
  • You'll reach Kibo Hut, situated at the base of the Kibo Crater, which is your starting point for the summit attempt.
  • After dinner, you'll prepare for the challenging summit climb and go to bed early.
    Hiking Distance: 9 km / 5.6 Mile.
    • DAY 5 : Summit Day - Kibo Hut (4,720m / 15485.6 ft ) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19340.5 ft ) and descent to Horombo Hut
  • You'll wake up around midnight, have a light meal, and start the ascent to Uhuru Peak.
  • The climb is steep, and you'll make your way up scree slopes in the darkness.
  • As you reach the rim of the crater, you'll witness the breathtaking sunrise at Gilman's Point (5,681m).
  • You'll continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, for a sense of accomplishment and stunning views.
  • After enjoying the summit, you'll descend back to Kibo Hut for a rest and a meal.
  • The journey continues as you make your way down to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend the night.
    Hiking Distance : 19 Km / 11.8
    • DAY 6 : Horombo Hut (3,720m / 12205 ft ) to Marangu Gate (1,860m / 6102.4 ft )
  • On the final day of your trek, you'll descend through the moorland and lush rainforest zones.
  • You'll reach the Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate to commemorate your achievement.
  • Afterward, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you can rest and celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro trek.

    Hiking Distance : 19 Km / 11.8 Mile.
    • DAY 7 : Departure
    Whether you depart for the airport immediately after your Kilimanjaro trek or continue with other adventure activities in the area largely depends on your personal preferences, time, and travel plans.
